Busta Rhymes has once again tapped into the vaults of the late, legendary J Dilla, dropping new single “SPAZZZ”. A reminder of just how powerful the chemistry between two hip-hop heavyweights can be.
The track arrives as part of Dillagence 2, the long-awaited follow-up to Busta and DJ Mick Boogie’s 2007 Dillagence mixtape, which famously paired Busta’s unmistakable, high-energy delivery with Dilla’s beautifully off-kilter production.
Even after all these years, Dilla’s fingerprints remain unmistakable: loose, unpredictable drums, soulful textures and that wonderfully crooked sense of rhythm that made his production so influential. Over it, Busta sounds completely at home — animated, aggressive and as charismatic as ever.
There’s something particularly fitting about hearing Busta ride a Dilla beat again. Their musical relationship stretches back decades, including Dilla’s production work connected to Busta’s catalogue, and Dillagence proved that the pairing had plenty of magic left in the tank.
Now, nearly two decades later, “SPAZZZ” feels less like a nostalgia trip and more like a continuation of unfinished business. Dilla may be gone, but his music continues to find new life — and with Busta Rhymes behind the mic, it’s getting one hell of a resurrection.
