The city of Baltimore is preparing to honor one of hip-hop’s most legendary figures Tupac by officially renaming a portion of Greenmount Avenue as “Tupac Shakur Way.” The ceremony is set to take place on June 16, recognizing the late rapper’s deep connection to the city that helped shape his early artistic journey.

While Tupac Shakur was born in New York and later became a defining voice of West Coast rap, Baltimore played a major role in his development as both an artist and activist. During the 1980s, Tupac attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet while building the creative foundation that would later make him a global icon.

The newly dedicated street sits near Tupac’s former childhood home and stands as a tribute to the impact he left on Baltimore’s culture and community. City leaders, residents, and supporters are expected to gather for the unveiling ceremony, which will celebrate his legacy through music, spoken word, and community reflection.

Baltimore officials have long acknowledged the city’s influence on Tupac’s rise, with many pointing to his years in Baltimore as a critical chapter in his personal and artistic growth. The street naming further cements the bond between the city and one of hip-hop’s most influential voices.

Nearly three decades after his passing, Tupac’s legacy continues to inspire generations through his music, activism, and storytelling. The dedication of “Tupac Shakur Way” serves as both a celebration of his impact on hip-hop culture and a reminder of the lasting connection between the rapper and the city of Baltimore.
