Hip hop loves collaboration producers and rappers with a distinct sound . 2 Chainz a dominat force in the Atlanta hip-hop scen and Statik Selektah is a legend in hip hop production, these two are a bit of an unexpected match. Statik Selektah is known for producing tracks with beautiful samples, gritty loops and powerful boom bap sound. Whereas 2 Chainz is known for bringing the southern vibe, catchy flows, charismatic personality and some of the best punchlines.
Sometimes the best musical partnerships come from the most different people. 2 Chainz and Statik Selektah have teamed up for an album dropping December 4th, 2026 called Playaz Only Live Once, which will be an interesting combination of the two. With Statik Selektah producing the album it will bring both the classic soulful vibes of east coast hip hop and the energetic and charismatic presence of 2 Chainz.
They gave us a taste of the album with songs like “Pops”, “Reign” ft. Young Nudy & Cash Cobain and “A Week In Paris”. The songs give an insight into what the album will sound like with Statik bringing his sampling to the forefront and 2 Chainz flowing effortlessly.
This album features a number of great names, like Lil Wayne, Westside Gunn, Mary J. Blige, CeeLo Green and Larry June. This means we will get a diverse range of voices across different generations and areas of hip hop and r&b. This will create some very interesting musical combinations.
Although we don’t know what songs will be on the album, there’s plenty of intrigue.
This collaboration really stands out because of how contrasting they are. Statik Selektah brings the classic east coast hip hop vibe whereas 2 Chainz brings something completely different from Atlanta. It really makes you interested in the project.
This album is definitely going to be one of the most unlikely collaborations we see this year. Although they are an unlikely pair, sometimes the best collaborations come from nowhere
