The Trinity International Hip Hop Festival returns this month for its 20th anniversary, bringing a global mix of artists, students, and audiences together for a four-day celebration of hip hop culture. Running from April 9–12, this year’s programme centres on the theme “Voices of Freedom: Resistance, Justice, and Revolution,” highlighting the genre’s enduring role as a platform for expression and social change.
Alongside live performances, DJ sets, dance battles, and panel discussions, the festival is also spotlighting a major visual arts feature: the Living Declarations exhibit. Running from April 6–19, the installation offers a retrospective of the festival’s two-decade history through a curated collection of photographs and archival imagery.
Rather than presenting a straightforward timeline, Living Declarations reimagines the archive as something active and evolving. Images are layered and juxtaposed to create a sense of movement across time, reflecting how hip hop culture continues to shift while staying rooted in shared histories of resistance and creativity.
Positioned as both an artistic and reflective space, the exhibit provides a quieter counterbalance to the festival’s high-energy events. It invites visitors to engage with the legacy of the festival while considering the broader cultural impact of hip hop across generations and geographies.
